Glenn A. Kurtz
December 23, 1933 - March 5, 2013
Born in Milwaukee, WI, Glenn died from heart disease at home in San Pedro with his family and friends at his side. Glenn came to sunny California in 1952 courtesy of the Marine Corp and the Korean War and never looked back. He spent the war as a weatherman for the Marine Corp Air Wing in El Toro, CA. After meeting Armida Holguin at a dance at the Palladium nightclub in Hollywood in 1954, he knew she was the love of his life and they married within nine months. After his enlistment he worked his way through UCLA and graduated Cum Laude with a double major of Zoology and Chemistry from Cal State Los Angeles. He spent the early part of his career in the Food and Beverage Industry as a chemist and eventually became a plant manager. Never one for the corporate culture, he started buying and selling businesses in the late sixties, eventually finding his professional niche as owner and publisher of "The Apartment Directory", a real estate data provider, in 1974. He found great success with this business and all of his immediate family members were able to work with him in this business. A dedicated and hard worker, he worked every day up until his final illness four weeks ago. He was a passionate supporter of all things UCLA, particularly the football and basketball teams of which he was a long time season ticket holder. An avid reader and life long learner, he could often be found late into the night researching various subjects on the internet. He was a perfectionist in his business, taking great pride in the accuracy of the product he produced. However his overriding passion was his wife and family. He will be sorely missed by his wife of 58 years, Armida, his son Laurence (Heide) Kurtz, daughter Laura (Vincent) Wrtaza, grandchildren Vincent (Yari) Wrtaza, Courtney Wrtaza, Catherine and Teddy Kurtz, great grandchildren Michael and Domenic Wrtaza, and a sister, LeNae Lederer of Mequon, WI. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal" All Family and friends are welcome for a memorial reception and luncheon on Saturday, March 16th, in the Madeo Ballroom located at the San Pedro Doubletree Hilton. Reception begins at 11:30 with luncheon and tributes at 12:30. Please sign the guestbook at mcnerneysmortuary.com and dailybreeze.com.
