Gordon B. Franks passed away on March 21, 2014 at the age of 94 in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. Gordon was predeceased by his wife, Rose Mary Nelson Franks and son John. He is survived by four children, Barbara (Geach), Blair, Alan, and Robert; four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Born in 1919 in Pennsylvania to Leo and Ethel Franks. Gordon was the younger brother to one sister, Russalene. Gordon grew up in Hornell, NY where his father worked as the superintendent of the Erie Railroad Maintenance Shops. He graduated from Hornell High School, attended both Syracuse and Niagara Universities, before enlisting in the Army prior to the outbreak of WWII. Gordon met his future wife, Rose Mary, during WWII while he was stationed outside of Baltimore, Md. After being honorably discharged as a Lieutenant, Gordon worked as an accountant at GAF (Binghamton, NY) and Lear-Siegler (Santa Monica). An avid runner of distance races, Gordon won 50 of the 53 marathons he entered, was awarded Philadelphia's perpetual marathon trophy for winning it four years in a row, set the Army hiking record in WW2 - breaking the old record by an amazing 30 minutes. He continued to enjoy long walks for his entire life, going on a 65-mile hike on his 65th birthday. Gordon wishes were that no public memorial service or ceremony be held.
