Jane Armstrong Hall

Jane Armstrong Hall was born on January 6, 1922 in Los Angeles, California. She was 4 years old when her parents moved into the eighth house built in Palos Verdes. When she passed away on June 26, 2013 at the age of 91, she was the oldest surviving original resident on the Hill. Jane had two great interests in life: art and people. After growing up on the Peninsula, she graduated from Stanford University; later she attended UCLA and Marymount College, getting her master's in art history. Her love of art is reflected in the hundreds of drawings, water colors and abstract oil paintings she created. It was not her style to want to leave footsteps behind; little did she know how much she changed the lives of the people with whom she came into contact though the many community organizations to which she belonged. She helped refugee families settle into their new surroundings; provided shelter for foster children; and welcomed foreign students to live with the family. In Santa Fe, New Mexico she established Po Ae Pi as a non-profit gallery to assist aspiring artists. She is survived by her six children: Edwin B. (Mimi) Hall of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Peter (Saskia) Hall of Liessel, Netherlands; Chris (Barbara) Hall of Palos Verdes, California; Anne Hall of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Jon Hall of San Diego, California; and Tom (Lynn) Hall of Alta, Iowa; as well as 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband E.B. A Celebration of Life open to all friends is being held at the Palos Verdes Malaga Cove Library in the Gallery Room, 2400 Via Campesina, Palos Verdes on Saturday, August 31, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in Jane's memory to the Peninsula Friends of the Library (www.pvldfriends.org) and Neighborhood Church (www.neighborhoodchurchpve.org).
