Laura (Peters, Steinhoff) Johnson
March 18, 1933 -
July 12, 2014
After years of suffering progressive dementia Laura passed gracefully in her home.
Born to Bill Peters and Marjorie Kingon in Michigan and raised on the Peters farm, Laura remained close to her family all her life. Laura published a book collecting Bill Peter's writings, Fond Memories of a Bygone Era.
Laura interrupted her nursing studies at University of Michigan to marry Harry Steinhoff Jr. (4/28/24 - ), move to Redondo Beach, and have 3 children: David (3/8/54 - 3/11/54), Marjorie (9/21/56 - 8/11/07), and Ken (3/1/55 - ). Later completing her R.N. she worked as a medical transcriptionist. She played clarinet in the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band, and joined the South Coast Rose Society.
Laura was a devoted caretaker for Marjorie (severely mentally retarded), shut-in's Vietnamese Refugee's, the homeless (Toberman Shelter in Long Beach), the retarded (Association for Retarded Children), and the poor (volunteered for DPSS). She loved the First United Methodist Church of Redondo Beach and its Women's Circle, dearly missing her beloved friends when she married Wayne Johnson (10/8/42- ) and moved to Laguna Woods.
Laura will be remembered for her life of Christian service to others. Send condolences to family c/o Ken Steinhoff, M.D.; 15615 Alton Parkway #220; Irvine CA 92618. Please sign the guestbook at www.dailybreeze.com/obits.
