Samuel A. Carr
84, passed away suddenly after a recent surgery on Monday, June 23, 2014 in Harbor City, California with family by his side. He was born on August 8, 1929 to the late Samuel and Elsie Carr in San Pedro, CA where he grew up alongside his younger brother, Dick. Samuel attended Mary Star of the Sea Elementary School and graduated from San Pedro High School in 1947. He married Mary Duzich in 1953. He was married for 61 years and lived his entire life in San Pedro, CA. Sam was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a commercial fisherman for over 50 years. Most of that time was spent fishing solo on his boat, The Fisherman. He had a passion for gardening and tended daily to his vegetables, roses and orchids. Sam also loved to travel and took over 30 cruises during his lifetime. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; daughter, Nikki (Bobby Robles); son, Sam; grandchildren, Lauren (Nick Tarbat), Adam and Nicholas (Jim Hash); great-grandson, William Samuel and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Green Hills Memorial Chapel at 11am. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Kaiser Coastline nursing staff (fourth floor) and especially to Dr. John Lee. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made out to the UCLA Foundation - Wooden Athletic Fund, Attention: Kyle Able, JD Morgan Center, PO Box 24044, Los Angeles, CA 90024.
