Stephen Meagher Bush
Stephen Meagher Bush, 84 of San Pedro Ca. passed away on April 30th, 2014 in Long Beach Ca. Steve was born on February 9th, 1930 in Raleigh, North Carolina, to Dr. Ernest W. Bush and Eleoner Brennen Bush and spent most of his growing up years in Southern Pines, North Carolina. He graduated high school from Friends Academy in Washington D.C.. After graduation he joined the navy and served on the destroyer John R. Craig serving in Korea and the Philippines. He moved to San Pedro in the early 1950's where he met and married the love of his life Dolores Perez and adopted her daughter Patricia. Steve was employed by the ILWU #13 as a longshoreman for over 30 years until his retirement. He especially enjoyed being a crane operator and took great pride in his work. He was active on the safety committee. Steve and Dolores loved to travel, especially to southern France where Dolores was from. His love of wine and and the game of Petanque were born from these journeys and he built a wine cellar and a Petanque court in his back yard where he and Dolores loved to entertain their friends and neighbors. He was a long time member of the Los Angeles Petanque club and served on its board for many years. Steve was a collector of stamps, coins, arrowheads, antiques and especially people. He had a thirst for learning all his life. He loved San Pedro and could not picture himself living anywhere else. He moved to Barbara St. in 1957 and his neighbors became some of his dearest friends, helping him in his later years. He is survived by his daughter Patricia Gillham of Jamesport, Missouri; granddaughter, Kristin Gillham of Kansas City, Mo and nieces, Kate Johns, and Sarah Griffin both of New York.
