Suzanne Dame Porter
Suzanne Dame Porter was born in Pasadena, CA on May 25, 1953. She lived the past 24 years in Hermosa Beach, CA. She was president and owner of Rainbow River Child Development Centers. She opened 26 childcare center facility licenses over her illustrious career as a Child Development Specialist. She studied ballet with Collenette as a child and at the age of 14 was invited to study at the New York City Ballet. She choreographed for several years for the Los Angeles City Jazz Troupe. Her child Joy passed away of congenital heart problems at the age of 2 1/2 years. She studied at Pacific Oaks College and received her Master's in Anti Bias Curriculum Development. She wrote and consulted widely on teaching and non-stereotypical Native American Culture. From the University of Paris to the University of Minnesota she used her Native American Heritage to share a broader understanding and teaching of Native Cultures. In 1990 she married Rick Porter and together they founded Rainbow Rising Child Development centers in Irvine, CA where they founded 7 childcare centers. She is survived by her daughter Star Hickman and husband Rick Porter. To celebrate her, there is a holiday family scholarship being established to help families through the holiday seasons. Donations in her name will be used to help deserving families. There will be a celebration of the life of Suzanne, who gave to so many, on Saturday June 22. Call 310-379-4912 for more information.
