Diana Gentles Obituary
Diana Leahy Gentles of Louisville, CO passed away peacefully on June 30, 2013. Diana was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Winnetka, IL by her parents, Harold and Jean Leahy. She attended North Shore Country Day School and Centenary Junior College before transferring to Northwestern University where she graduated with a BS in Education in 1953. Diana and her husband, Sam, married in December 1953. Over the course of 59 years together they had three children and six grandchildren. Diana was a homemaker and did a variety of volunteer work. Gardening was a passion for Diana and she spent many, many happy hours in her own gardens and on garden club projects. Additionally, for several years, she and a good friend owned and operated a company called "Why Bother?" which provided beautiful floral arrangements for a variety of occasions. When not gardening or raising her children, Diana loved being outdoors playing golf, tennis or walking on the beach. Other interests included travel, bridge, knitting and needlepoint. Over the course of their lives together Diana and Sam had homes in Ohio, Missouri, California, Illinois and Florida. In 2010 they moved to The Balfour Lodge in Louisville, Colorado to be near family. Diana made many new friends during this time with whom she played bridge as often as possible and kept engaged and active. Diana was preceded in death by her parents and oldest son, Samuel Jr. She is survived by her husband Samuel, two children: Robert Gentles and Katherine Beeck, and grandchildren: Samuel Gentles, III, Charles Gentles, Katherine Gentles, Anna Beeck, Robert Gentles and Elizabeth Beeck. A private memorial was held among family members. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to TRU Community Care Hospice, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Lafayette, CO. 80026-9928.
