Frank May Obituary
Frank Austin May, 76 of Boulder, CO died of complications to Parkinson's Disease in Louisville, CO. Frank was born in Tampa, Florida in Dec 1937 to Frank and Bertha May. He grew up in Tampa, Florida. After graduating high school he joined the Air Force serving 4 years, earning a Good Conduct Medal and being honorably discharged. Frank attended the University of Minnesota earning a BSEE in 1969. He worked as an aerospace engineer on many top secret military projects as well as high profile projects such as NASA's man maneuvering unit, the Magellan spacecraft that mapped the surface of Venus, the international space station and the Raytheon Hawker Horizon jet. Frank met his wife, Juliann Marie Larson in Endicott NY in 1965. They were married in New Brighton, MN in Apr 1966 and had two sons, Eric and Kyle. With his family, Frank moved around the world seeking new experiences and adventures such as becoming a member of the Ayers Rock Climbers League in Australia and completing the climb in Sep 1973. In 1981 he completed the goal to take his family to all 50 of the United States. Frank continued to travel throughout his life living in Minnesota, Texas, Colorado, Virginia, Ohio and Kansas. He eventually settled in Longmont, CO with his wife in 2005. Due to health issues he made his final move to Boulder, CO in 2014. Frank is survived by his sons: Eric T. May and wife Philippa of Boulder, CO, and Kyle P. May and wife Monica of Austin, TX; sister Bertha of Brandon, Florida; grandchildren Duncan W. May of Boulder, CO and Alexis Q. May of Austin, TX. He was preceded in death by his mother Bertha P., father Frank A., wife Juliann M., brothers Robert & Jack. Respecting Frank's wishes, no formal service was held. His ashes were mingled with his wife's and together, they were laid to rest in an unidentified mountain field in Colorado.
