Jean Hurd

Obituary Condolences

An amazing lady left us on December 15th when Jean Langford Sisk Hurd slipped away surrounded by her family. She was a beautiful, gentle, elegant, brilliant, generous woman with a delightful, whimsical sense of humor, and backbone of steel. She was with us for 96 years, but seemed to defy gravity, and to be ageless. When her physician suggested she draw up her bucket list, she informed him there was no need - she had done it all. She was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Theron Sparhawk Langford and Katreena Stewart McLean. Jean's brothers, Malcolm, an attorney, and William, a physician, predeceased her. Jean received an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, where she met her first husband, Fred Sisk, a law student there. They later moved to Las Animas, Colorado, where they raised four children: Chuck Sisk (Terre Rushton) of Louisville, CO; Kate Hill (Randy Randolph) of Santa Rosa, CA.; Bill Sisk (Luz Elena) of Armenia, Colombia; and Libby Hutton of Santa Rosa. Jean is survived by her eight grandchildren: Michael, Brian, and Jennifer Sisk; Annabelle Langford Bumerts; Will and Alexandra Sisk; and Stewart and David Hutton. At the ages of 85 and 86, she and her lifelong friend, Rex Hurd, fell deeply in love, and married. She moved to Grand Junction, CO, where she and Rex enjoyed five years until his death in 2007. She is also survived by her stepchildren from that marriage, whom she has known all of their lives; Korki Stroud, Candy Cotton, Mimi Hurd and Alan Hurd. A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, January 25th at 1:30 P. M. at Daniels Church of the Roses in Santa Rosa with a private reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family invites friends to make contributions in Jean's name to Memorial Hospice or to the Sonoma Humane Society.
