Family, friends and heartful community have been tenderly affected by the unexpected passing of Johanna "Jodi" Elise Arnold, age 28, at Boulder Community Hospital on Friday, November 9, 2012. A Celebration of Jodi's Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Columbine Unity Spiritual Center, 8900 Arapahoe Road, Boulder, CO. A reception will follow the service at the church. Jodi was born Nov. 14, 1983 in Boulder, to Edward and Jacqueline Arnold. She attended Iris Pre-School, Martin Park Elementary, Southern Hills Middle School, and graduated from Fairview High School in 2005. She was coached and mentored by her beloved special-ed para-educator, Nancy Satkowski; her creative communication specialist, Anja Kintsch; and her brilliant physical therapist, Melissa Crutcher. Jodi was involved in the evolving world of augmentative communication, writing letters and reports by use of a knee or hand switch. She was very thrilled to have alternative mobility devices available to her, including walkers and tricycles. While in school, she participated in many programs offered by EXPAND staff through the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation, and
. More recently, Jodi became an active member of the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster. She frequently visited the Pavilion's exhibits and her tarantula friend, Rosie. Jodi was especially fond of humorous books and films, and also those reflecting compassion and kindness for all sentient beings. She exemplified a life fully lived with a non-striving attitude, complete trust, non-judgement, and patience. She practiced unconditional love, compassion, and authentic empathy for others every day of her life. Jodi deeply loved her compassionate care providers including: Mindi Counts, Angela Schmitt, Nancy Ferman, Jenni Buczko, Karen Jensen, Kristi Plucker, and Alesha Worden. She leaves dear friends in her community including: Kelly Kaminski, Lizzie Creech, Chris Satkowski, Lorri Park, Chris Rolander, Tiffany Zimenoff, and Jane Laughlin. She was also friends with the late Susannah Park and Erin Collins-Arsenault. Besides her parents, Jodi leaves a beloved brother, Dr. Jaymison (Jaymie) Arnold of Boulder and Santa Fe; and his fiancee, Suvara Sompong of Nathrop, CO. Also surviving are great aunt Ruth E. Arnold of Colorado Springs; maternal grandmother Isabel Tupanjanin of Victorville, CA; and uncle Buren Smith of Victorville, CA.
