Lewis Yoder Obituary
Lewis B. Yoder, 87, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, died at 1:13 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the Haven. Born October 31, 1925 in Belleville, he was the son of the late Jesse J. and Annie M. (Byler) Yoder. Lew is survived by a sister, Martha Yoder of Belleville and two brothers, Joshua D. and wife Rebecca Yoder of Belleville, and Gideon L. Yoder of McVeytown, as well as six nephews, three nieces and a number of great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Ivan Yoder and a sister-in-law, Hazel (Rudy) Yoder. At the age of 24 Lew moved from Belleville to LaJunta, CO, where he served for one year with Mennonite Voluntary Service. Following that time, he remained in the Midwest, eventually settling in Boulder, CO, where, academically and vocationally he was able to pursue his lifelong love of nature, attaining degrees in biology, chemistry, and psychology. Lew was employed at Rocky Flats as a nuclear research scientist and at the University of Colorado in Boulder as a lab supervisor for chemistry students. He was a member of the Unity Church of Boulder, the Rocky Flats Homesteaders, and the Boulder Elks Lodge #566, Colorado. In addition, his interests included Toastmasters, various naturalist organizations, square dancing, and family genealogy and history. Lew was happy to relocate to Belleville in May 2012 and to reconnect with family in the past few months. His family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Valley View for their dedicated and loving care for Lew. A memorial service will be held in his memory at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Valley View Haven Chapel. Burial will take place at Locust Grove Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. His family will receive friends, Friday, February 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Valley View Chapel.
