Norman Sheppard Obituary
Rex Sheppard, 86, of Boulder, died Monday, May 12, 2014 at his residence. Rex was born on a farm near Wellsville, Kansas to Veryl Colbert and Grace Hazel Adams Sheppard. He graduated from North High School in Denver and served in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II. He received degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business from the University of Colorado (CU) in 1951. He later earned a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from CU. As an undergraduate he lettered in wrestling for four years, was a student Commissioner of Athletics in 1951, and was elected Canebearer by his fellow students to lead the graduation procession. Professionally he worked for General Electric (utilities), Lockheed Martin, and Ball Corporation, primarily working on NASA satellite programs. He was a Master Electrician and Professional Engineer, and had his own electrical contracting business in the 1970s. Until recently, he remained active, enjoying sports, skiing, woodworking, backpacking, and travel. He was married for 43 years to Barbara H. "Bonnie" Sheppard, who survives him. He is also survived by his daughters Holly Jean Sheppard, Kim Ellen Shepton, and Glyn Sheppard Masi (Alan Masi) and his son, Mark Allen Sheppard (Crystal Sheppard), all of Colorado. His grandchildren, Aaron David Sheppard and Anastasia V. Button, also live in Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jay Sheppard. A private celebration of life will be held. Donations to his memory may be made to Hospice of Boulder County, the Nature Conservancy or Emergency Family Assistance Association of Boulder.
