Wanda Childs Rense, 94, passed away in Boulder, Colorado on January 10, 2013. She was born in Eunice, Louisiana on December 19, 1918 to Dr. Alexander B and Ora C Childs. Growing up in a close and loving family, as a youth Wanda already exhibited the keen mind and good nature many friends and family came to respect over her lifetime. She went to college at Louisiana State University, where she excelled in biology and earned her degree in journalism. Wanda carried her intellectual spirit and love of learning to many others over a long and productive life. At LSU she met and married William A Rense, a doctorate in Physics. In 1949 they moved to Boulder, Colorado, with their first child. While her husband enjoyed a long career at the University of Colorado, Wanda focused on raising their three children. She also helped manage her own family's Louisiana farm for many decades, as well as being active in various Colorado organizations. She helped select a family mountain property near Allenspark, Colorado, and became an expert on the flora of the area. After her husband's retirement, they spent many years living between Louisiana and Allenspark. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband and an infant daughter, Elizabeth. She is survived by her sons William of Estes Park, CO; John of Anchorage, AK; Charles of Los Alamos, NM; and by two granddaughters and two great grandsons. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
