Barbara Jean Goold RotterdamBarbara J. Goold died at Ellis hospital on Dec. 26, 2013. She is survived by her son, Howard L. Goold of Rotterdam, and her daughter, Sara E. GooId Horne of Westport, CT, and four grandchildren. Three daughters predeceased her. Barbara was born on Sept. 17, 1928 in Johnstown, PA to Henry and Ellen Wissinger. She grew up in Pontiac, MI. She is a graduate from Michigan State University with a BA degree. Barbara started work as a social worker in the Detroit juvenile court. She later taught high school English. In 1952, she married William A. GooId, also a graduate of Michigan State. Following his discharge from the Army, they moved to the Albany area where they lived in East Schodack, Latham and Niskayuna. Her husband, Bill GooId, died in 1997. Barbara was a devoted mother, amateur pilot at 16, an avid reader, active member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Latham, and proprietor of Hand & Heart gift store. A memorial service is planned for Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Latham. A reception will follow in the parlor. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church.
