Edward 'Joe' Bez AmsterdamMr. Edward Joe Bez, of Water Street Road, Amsterdam died peacefully at home on Saturday, December 14, 2013, with his family by his side. He was 80 years old. Born on September 15, 1933 in Norwich, VT, he was the son of the late Samuel and Josephine Tkagut Bez. Joe attended grade school in Norwich and later moved to Amsterdam where he attended the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School, where he played basketball. In 1952 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served four years as an airplane mechanic and received his training at Sampson Air Force Base and was also stationed in Arizona and Alaska. On February 2, 1957 he was united in marriage to Joan Druziak. They had a wonderful and happy marriage that spanned 56 years. Joe was employed for American Airlines in Albany for 37 years, retiring as crew chief in 1996. He loved hunting at his camp in Speculator and also camping at Lewey Lake and Moffits Beach with his family and friends. Joe also enjoyed building his home with his sons, gardening and going to casinos. His favorite past time was going fishing with his son, David, in bass fishing contests against his other sons, Bob and Brian. A devout Catholic, he enjoyed attending daily Mass at the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at St. Mary's Church as long as he was able. He was also a member of the Post 701 and an avid Yankee fan. Above all, he loved his family dearly and will be sadly missed by those who knew him. He was predeceased by his father at an early age; his mother and stepfather, John Grajewski; and his sisters, Mary and Frances. Survivors include his wife, Joan; sons, Robert (Tami) Bez, Brian and Lisa Bez and David Bez; four grandchildren, Morgen (Peter) Colbeth, Jessica Bez, Christina Bez and Justin Bez; one great-grandson, Jamison Gunner Colbeth; a sister-in-law, Arlene (Ted) Madej; and one brother-in-law, Dennis (Laurie) Druziak. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thanks to Community Hospice and Joe's granddaughter, Jessica, for their support and care in the last days of his life. A Service of Remembrance will take place on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 11 o'clock at the Hagaman Mills Cemetery, Hagaman, New York. Deacon Michael Ryba will preside. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
