Edward D. Eldredge CobleskillEdward Duryea Eldredge, 88, of Canterbury Dr., Cobleskill, died Sunday, August 3rd at his residence under Hospice care. Mr. Eldredge was born November 19, 1925 in Cobleskill, NY, a son of John V.S. and Helen (Conaro) Eldredge and later graduated from the former Cobleskill High School in 1944. Edward enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1945 serving his country during WWII in the European Theater until his honorable discharge in 1947 as a radio repairman and clerk-typist. He returned to his native Schoharie County and began a career in electronics at his brothers' shop, Jim's Radio & TV on Lark St. in Cobleskill. He later worked for General Telephone and Electronics and eventually Continental Telephone in Johnstown where he retired in 1990 after 20 plus years of service as a telephone switchman and radio telephone technician. Edward was a devoted member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served in many leadership positions as well as treasurer. He was also a member of the Fred L. Stilson American Legion, Cobleskill Fire Department, Cobleskill Historical Society and the Schoharie County Radio Club. Edward was an elected member of the Cobleskill Village Board of Trustees and served as the Village Clerk. Ed married Jean (Dargie) Eldredge on November 3, 1951. She predeceased him on October 14, 2004. Survivors include his children, Christopher (Nancy) Eldredge of Fergus Falls, MN, Dwight Eldredge of Charlotte, NC, and Brian (Cathy) Eldredge, of Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren, Reece, Katie, Liz, Jack, and Jonathan; one sister, Margaret Hummel of Cobleskill and one brother, Charles Eldredge of Castleton-On-Hudson; along with several nieces and nephews. Edward was predeceased by his siblings, John, Art, Jim, Howard, Helen and Mabel. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 8th at Zion Lutheran Church, Main Street, Cobleskill. A visitation period will be held following the service in the church hall. Burial will be in the Cobleskill Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Eldredge to Catskill Area Hospice, 125 Granite Dr., Suite #1, Cobleskill, NY 12043 or the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 615 East Main St., Cobleskill, NY 12043.
