Floyd C. Merriman SchenectadyFloyd C. Merriman, 86, of Schenectady, NY died January 16, 2013 in Hendersonville, NC following a short illness. He was born November 5, 1926 in New Haven CT, the son of the late Henry and Marjorie Merriman. Floyd served in the Air Force during WWII in the Philippines. After the war he earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Connecticut. He earned a graduate degree from the University of Vermont, where he met and married his wife of 59 years, Priscilla, who preceded him in death in 2007. He is survived by his children, David of Schenectady, John (Karen) of Charleston, WV, Wayne (Janice) of Hendersonville, NC, Ruth of Nashua, NH; five grandchildren, Kelly Copeland, Chad, Brandon, Jason, and Ty; three great-grandchildren, John, Nathan and Sadie Priscilla Copeland; a brother, Paul of Beacon Falls, CT. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Guy, Dudley, and Frank. Floyd retired from Knolls Atomic Power Lab after a distinguished 33 year career working on advanced nuclear design for power plants in submarines and aircraft carriers, work instrumental to supporting the nuclear Navy. He was an active member of Emmanuel Friedens Church and active in community service including Rotary International and ARC. He enjoyed spending time with his family especially summers in Charlestown, RI, where he fulfilled his passion for sailing and boating. He was an amateur ham radio operator and spent many years communicating with fellow hams. He loved to tinker, whether it was projects on the boat or around the house, woodworking, and gardening. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 26, at noon at Plantsville Congregational Church, 108 Church Street, Plantsville, CT. Family will receive visitors at the church from 10 a.m. to noon prior to the service. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Southington, CT. Plantsville Funeral Home in Plantsville, CT will handle the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Friedens Church, 218 Nott Terrace, Schenectady, NY 12307.

John and Wayne, we were all saddened to hear of your Dad's passing. We missed him here at Kingsway, but we're glad he was nearer to you for the last 10 months. Our thoughts and prayers go out to your and your families.
