Frederick E. Charves East Providence Frederick E. Charves, 79, passed away on March 4, 2014 at the Pawtucket Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Fred was the husband of Virginia Charves. He was the son of the late Michael Charves and the late Gertrude (Daniels) Charves, Hovnanian. Fred was born and grew up in Taunton, MA, and graduated from Taunton High School. Fred joined the U.S. Navy and served in Japan, working on our planes during the Korean War. Fred then went to the R.I. School of Design, graduating with a BA in illustration. Fred taught for a year at his former high school in Taunton. He then spent a year studying printmaking at the University of Iowa, before returning to R.I. and earning a Masters Degree in Art Education from RISD. Fred then became a social worker for East Providence, R.I. and then for the State of R.I. He earned a Masters Degree in Social Work from Boston University and spent the rest of his career as a clinical social worker for R.I. Fred is survived by his wife, Virginia; their sons, Walter Charves and Michael Charves and his fiancee Sandra Raposa, all of Rumford; their daughter, Greta Carpenter and her husband, Charles and sons, Nick and Jack of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Donovan and her husband Paul of Florida; and stepbrother, George Hovnanian and his wife Estella of Grafton, NY. Fred also had three nieces; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by the Prata Funeral Home.
