Gerald H. Clapper Clifton ParkGerald H. Clapper, 87, of Route Old 146, died Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Born December 14, 1924 in West Fulton, he was a son of Fred and Mabel (Springstead) Clapper. Gerald was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving his country in the Infantry Division of the 42nd Rainbow, stationed in Germany in 1946. He received a WW II Victory Medal and was honorably discharged in 1947. Gerald retired from the Iron Workers Local Union #12 of Albany. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local #12 in Albany and a life member of the Middleburgh VFW #2161. Survivors include his wife, Dolores Clapper, whom he married December 5, 1948; three children, Ronald W. Clapper of Halfmoon, Sheila MacDonald of Red Hook and Lisa Schermerhorn of Latham; his sister, Sylvia Davenport of Cobleskill; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Carl Clapper officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
