Geraldine 'Gerri' M. Bender Howes CaveGeraldine Gerri M. Bender, 65, of State Rte. #7, Howes Cave, died Wednesday, July 30th at the Cobleskill Regional Hospital after a long illness. Gerri was born November 6, 1948, in Hobart, NY, a daughter of Perry and Jennie (Mondore) Collins. She received her education at Hobart School and later, South Kortright High School. Later in life, she attended Mildred Elley Business School in Albany and after completing the required courses with honors, worked as a bookkeeper for Visiting Nurses in Menands until retiring due to ill health in October of 2013. She was a member of the VFW Post #2161 Auxiliary in Middleburgh. Gerri also enjoyed collecting Owl's and Santa's, spending time with her grandchildren, helping others, and weekend trips with her husband, Butch. Survivors include her husband, Marvin Bender, whom she married July 16, 1983; her children, Tammy (Ted) Pangman of Guilderland and Jeffrey (Eliza) Moore of Chenango Forks, NY; three grandchildren, Taylor and Bailey Pangman and Emerson Moore; her mother, Jennie Collins of Howes Cave; and three brothers, Charles Mondore of Richfield Springs, Pete Collins of Schuyler Lake and Robert Collins of Schenevus; along with several nieces and nephews. A period of visitation will be held at the Langan Funeral Home, 327 Main Street, Schoharie on Monday, August 4th from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service with burial following at the Old Stone Fort Cemetery. The Rev. Brenda Tompkins will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Bender to the ALS Regional Center at St. Peter's Hospital, 19 Warehouse Row, Albany, NY 12205.
