Harry B. DeWitt DuanesburgHarry B. DeWitt, 81, of Birchwood Dr., peacefully entered into eternal life on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany. Born in Ellenville, he was the son of the late Stewart and Celia Simpson DeWitt and was a graduate of Kerhonkson High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean War and was awarded the Occupation Medal Germany and the National Defense Service Medal. He retired after 30 years as a trucker from Susan Myers Trucking in Duanesburg and had previously been employed at A & P in Schenectady. He is the last surviving charter member of the Rotterdam Eagles Aerie #3610, a life member of the Rotterdam Elks #2157, VFW Post #1895 in Schenectady, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #251 in Schenectady and the Rotterdam Republican Club. Devoted father of Mari (Andy) Brick of Voorheesville who is survived by her mother, Patricia Zell of Colonie, William (Christina Slusser) of Ft. Valley, GA and Walter (Amy) DeWitt of Colonie; cherished grandfather of Merrin and Emily; 40-year companion of Susan Myers of Duanesburg and her children, James (Chris) Myers and Skip Myers, both of Duanesburg, Elaine (Don) Krtanjek of Bel Air, Maryland, Lori Myers and Donna Walsh, both of Schenectady and their children who affectionately called Harry Grandpa, as well as numerous great-grandchildren; brother of Betty (Jim) Allison of Kerhonkson and the late Stewart Donald DeWitt and Doris Kwolek; nephew of Lorraine Simpson; also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Bond Funeral Home, 1614 Guilderland Ave. (Broadway & Guilderland Ave.), Schenectady, NY 12306 on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. His funeral service will begin at 7 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Cherrytown Cemetery, Kerhonkson. Those desiring, may make memorial contributions to , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region, Inc., 139 South Lake Avenue, Albany, NY 12208. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue, Troy, New York 12182.
