John Frederick Brown New Hartford, NYJohn Frederick Brown, born February 1, 1923, in Amsterdam, NY, died on September 2, 2013 at the age of 90. John, nicknamed Brownie, was the only son of John Samuel Brown and Minnie McGaffin Brown of Amsterdam, NY. John attended Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School and graduated in 1940. He was drafted into the US Navy on November 11, 1942 where he served actively for four years aboard the USS Pennsylvania, fighting in 13 invasions. He was honorably discharged on January 13, 1946. He was married to Philomena M. DiCaprio of Amsterdam, NY on February 10, 1946. She died September 20, 2010. After his marriage to Philomena DiCaprio, and many years later, he moved to Miami, FL where he worked as a supervisor mechanic for Eastern Airlines for 20 years. He retired from Eastern Airlines in 1986 at the age of 63. He and his wife later moved from Miami, FL to Houston, TX. While in Texas, they resided at Terrytowne Estates Retirement Community where they attended St. John Vianney Catholic Church. In July of 2013, he then moved to Preswick Glen Retirement Village in New Hartford, NY to be near his daughter and son-in-law. John is survived by a daughter, Colleen Kelli Samson of Barneveld, NY; and one grandson, Daniel Taylor King of Baytown, TX. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Jennifer Leigh King. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 7th at 10:30 a.m. from De Stefano Funeral Home, Rt. 5-S, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Calling hours will be Friday, September 6th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
