John R. Pyle Jr. CleverdaleJohn R. Pyle Jr., 88, of Cleverdale, passed away Saturday after a long illness. Born 1924 in Patterson, NJ, Jack's family relocated to Syracuse, NY in 1934, ultimately winding up as a young man in Schenectady where he graduated in 1942 from Nott Terrace High School. He joined the US Navy in 1943 as a part of the draft during WWII. Shortly after serving, he attended Utica College and graduated from Syracuse University class of 1950. Jack became an adjuster for Associated Indemnity, located in Albany until 1953. In 1954 he took a position with The Travelers as an investigative agent and also married the late Eloise Parsons, who passed in 1996. They returned to Schenectady where he became part of Ter Bush and Powell, Inc. in 1957. Jack rose to become one of the highest producers in commercial lines, earning the position of senior vice president. He remained with the company through several acquisitions until his retirement in 1985. In addition to his professional success he was also active with Masonic organizations as a 3rd degree Master Mason in St. George's Lodge, a member of the Scottish Rite, as well as it's charitable arm the Shriners, becoming a director and Potentate of Cypress Temple, Albany. He also held the office of president of the Schenectady Shrine Club as an advocate for the work done by the Shriner's Hospitals for Children. Since his retirement in 1985, Jack enjoyed a home in south Florida as well as his home in Cleverdale on Lake George. He loved golfing, boating on Lake George, traveling and spending time with his friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Grace Roberts Pyle; daughter, Barbara Shipman and son, Douglas; and granddaughters, Megan and Michaela Shipman. Services will be held Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at Regan Denny Stafford Funeral Home, 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury. There will be no calling hours. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie, NY.
