Margaret Jane Dittman GloversvilleMrs. Margaret Jane Dittman, age 88, of Gloversville, died peacefully Friday morning, October 26, 2012, at Nathan Littauer Hospital with her family at her side. She was born July 7, 1924 in Fort Plain, the daughter of the late Reuben and Julia Yerdon Swartz. She worked at Luxeray in Fort Plain from age 17 until her marriage in 1948 to Lloyd Russell Dittman. She then moved to Gloversville where she worked at F. W. Woolworth and then for many years in the factory at St. Thomas Inc. until her retirement in 1972. Margaret was a member of the Fort Plain American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and gardening. Margaret helped raise many of her nieces and nephews including Nancy Antonucci (Louis), Mildred Lewis (Harry), Marilyn Cole (Wayne), Darla DelSignore (Bob), Robert Sardelli (Sue), all who survive, and Jack Sardelli, who died this past March. Additional survivors include 31 grandnieces and grandnephews including Margaret Shaver (David), Sheri DeMagistris (Michael), Matthew Lewis (Kathi) and Michael Lewis (Shelbi); many great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews and many great great-grandnieces and great great-grandnephews. Her husband, Lloyd Russell Dittman, died July 27, 2004. She was also predeceased by all of her siblings, Viola Alkinburg, Geraldine Whiteman, Mary Gehardt, Reuben Swartz and Karl Swartz. The family will receive relatives and friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, October 29, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Nancy E. Ryan officiating. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. Memorial contributions may be made to Nathan Littauer Hospital, 99 E.
