Mario Piersante Burnt HIllsMario Piersante, 88, of Velina Dr., Burnt Hills, passed away at home on Monday, December 30, 2013, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Chieti, Italy, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Rosa Piersante. He lived in Chieti, Italy until the age of thirty where he served as a police officer. He was employed by the GE Company in Schenectady, was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception and the Abruzzi Society. Mario had a great love for his large garden and took great pride in his flowers and fig trees, he loved to play bocce, drink red wine, and especially loved his family, friends and his dog, Lolah. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Famiano Piersante; and by five older sisters in Italy. Mario is survived by his loving daughter, Nancy Buskey of Burnt Hills; and cherished granddaughter, Renee Buskey. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 11:15 a.m. from the DeLegge Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 12 noon, at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Glenville. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday at the DeLegge Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Those who wish to remember Mario in a special way may make a contribution to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, NY 12308. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Thomas Goodman and the staff, for the care and kindness shown to Mario.
