Michele (Myke) Vergara NiskayunaMichele (Myke) Vergara, 81, of Windemere Court, died unexpectedly Friday, November 8, 2013 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Vergara was born in Syracuse to the late Vincent and Virginia Thomas Morgan and lived most of her life in Syracuse. After the death of her husband, three years ago, she moved to Niskayuna to live with her daughter. Mrs. Vergara was a graduate of Syracuse University, receiving a bachelor's and master's degree. Mrs. Vergara was the owner of Vergara Income Tax Service in Syracuse. Earlier in her career, she was a school teacher in Dewitt. She loved spending time in Florida at the ocean, playing bridge and reading, but more than anything enjoyed being with her three grandchildren of whom she was so proud. Mrs. Vergara was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Anthony Vergara who died in 2010 and a son, Christopher Vergara who died in 2002. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Evan Downey of Niskayuna and three beloved grandchildren, Andrew, Adam and Gina Downey all of Niskayuna. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10 at St. Kateri Tekaakwitha Church, 1803 Union Street. There will be no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Schenectady Animal Protection Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Schenectady, NY 12302 in Myke's memory.
