The Guest Book is expired.

Robert Hull 'Bob' Savage ScotiaRobert Hull (Bob) Savage passed away quietly at Ellis Hospital on Sunday October 13, 2013 at the age of 99. He was born in Minneapolis in 1914, the son of Charles Albert and Blanche Savage, both professors at the University of Minnesota. He received his primary and secondary education at university affiliated schools in Minneapolis, after which he attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in electrical engineering. Subsequently, he did post graduate work at the State University of Iowa. Mr. Savage joined General Electric Company in an engineering capacity in 1943, where he remained for his entire career, mostly as a research scientist within the company's Corporate Research and Development Center in Niskayuna. During World War II, he did pioneering work in a number of noteworthy areas, including particularly in aircraft engine-related design. He received recognition for circa 175 patents during his time at GE. He retired in 1974. During his graduate student years, Bob Savage married the former Ruth DeShazo, with whom he had three children, David, Sylvia and Kathleen, who all survive him. He is also survived by his current wife, Ingeborg Schlingloff. Following retirement, Bob retained a strong interest in a wide spectrum of scientific areas including themes in physical chemistry, low temperature physics and microscopy. He was a skilled classical pianist and maintained a strong interest in and love for music and dance throughout his life. He also became a keen student of American history in the colonial period and is the author of a book about that period, with particular focus on the Declaration of Independence. Always an independent and creative thinker with a restless intellect, he was an original character, who will be much missed by his surviving family and friends. A private memorial service will be scheduled in the future.
