William P. LaRoe RotterdamWilliam P. LaRoe, 83, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013 with his loving family by his side. Born in Schenectady on December 29, 1929, he was the son of Richard and Mary Casey LaRoe. Bill graduated from Siena College and then received his master's of education degree from SUNY Albany. He then served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. For 35 years Bill was an elementary school teacher at Bradt School, in Rotterdam. He was also a member of the Rotterdam Elks Lodge #2157. Bill was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time in his flower and vegetable garden. Most of all Bill loved spending time with his family and friends at his cottage on Lake Champlain, which he considered God's Country. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lottie Cislo LaRoe; his three children, Holly (Steve) Longo, Michelle (Bill) Reese and Bill (Gina) LaRoe; his 10 grandchildren, Nicole (Jeff), Brian, Kyle, Cameron, Kayla, Megan, Kirsten, Liam, Aidan and Casey; and his two great-grandchildren, Kendra and Keyara. Bill is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents he was predeceased by his daughter, Cindy Pelletier; his sister, Elizabeth Miller; and his brother, Richard LaRoe. A Mass of Christian Burial, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church where Bill was a communicant. It is requested there be no calling hours. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Rotterdam. Memorial contributions may be made in Bill's memory to City Mission of Schenectady, 425 Hamilton St., Schenectady, NY 12305; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or the Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302.
