Chester L. "Chet" Francis Jr. Obituary
Chester L. "Chet" Francis, Jr., age 73, a former many year resident of Elgin, and Dundee Township passed away in the comfort of his home, surround by his family on Wednesday morning. Chet was born on December 12, 1939 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of the late Chester L. & Bessie E. (nee McDonald) Francis. On June 26, 1960, he married C. Ann Hollister. Chet was a 1964 graduate of the University of Iowa having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. All of Chet's professional career was spent in Automotive Engineering. During that time, Chet had worked for Warner Electric Brake & Clutch, Co., Niehoff Automotive Products, Motorola Automotive Group, The Robert Bosch Corp., Stewart Warner-OEM and ended his career with Indak Manufacturing Corp. He was an associate member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) for over 35 years. Chet was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Dundee. In earlier years, he was heavily involved in Scouting with his son Greg with Elgin Troop 14. Chet was also a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was very talented and could fix anything. Chet put this talent to good use as a volunteer and construction team leader with several mission trips sponsored by his church. Following retirement, Chet worked as a High School Math and Science Substitute Teacher in School District #300. Over the past several years, Chet and Ann wintered in Arizona and spent much of their time making new friends and enjoying old friendships, while traveling throughout the United States in their Motor Home. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, sailing and tennis. Chet is survived by his wife of 53 years: C. Ann. His daughter: Michele (Tom, Jr.) Mullen, his son: Greg L. (Sandra) Francis, his grandchildren: Meredith E. and Carolyn A. Mullen and Megan L. and Ryan L. Francis. Other survivors include his sister: Linda A. Grubb, his niece: Elizabeth "Susie" Wright, his nephew: D. Edward "Ed" Wright and his grandnephews: Michael (Jenifer) Wright and Race Bakeris, his great-nephew: Sam Wright as well as his church family and countless good and faithful friends. In addition to his parents, Chet was preceded in death by his sister: Carol K. Francis and his brother: William N. Francis. Family and friends will gather for Funeral Services at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the First Congregational Church, 900 S. Eighth Street (Route 31) in West Dundee. The Rev. Aaron James, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dundee Township East Cemetery, in East Dundee. Visitation will be held on 3-8 PM on Friday in the Miller Funeral Home, 504 W. Main St., West Dundee and again on Saturday morning at the church from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the service. The family strongly requests the omission of flowers and would encourage memorials being made to either The First Congregation Church Sr. High Ministry, 900 S.
