WARRENVILLE - Elbert H. "Al" Derrick, 90, a resident of Warrenville, IL since 1958, formerly of Wheaton, died on Christmas night Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013 at his home. He was born Oct. 25, 1923 in Pekin, IL. Beloved husband of Joyce (nee Osborne) Derrick, whom he married February 15, 1958, loving father of Lori (Mike) Comer of Edgar Springs, MO, Lisa (James) Doyle of Bloomingdale, Pam (Pete) Peterson of Lisle, Kathy Derrick of Woodridge and Chris (Melody) Derrick of Wheaton, adored grandfather of Brandon, Kirsten, Ryan and Lindsey; Alex, Melina (Kyle), Christopher and Chelsea; Bradley; Faith and David, cherished great-grandfather of Julian, devoted son of the late Eugene and Thelma (nee Morris) Derrick, dear brother of Nila Rae (the late Dick) Phelps of St. Petersburg, FL, David Derrick of Indianapolis, IN, Phyllis (Vern) Hurlbert of La Mirada, CA and the late Warren (Dorothy of Leesburg, FL) Derrick, fond uncle of many. Al grew up in Wheaton, attended Wheaton Academy and the University of Illinois at Champaign and worked at a torpedo factory during World War II. He was employed by Austin-Western Co., Aurora, IL and later owned and operated Industrial Components Co., West Chicago, IL for many years. Al enjoyed stamp collecting, traveling, especially to Mexico, and had an interest in archeology and the Mayan civilization. Visitation Monday, December 30, 4 to 8 P.M., at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. Private funeral services will be held in the funeral home with Rev. David Newton officiating. Interment: Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery, Oakbrook Terrace, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: Home Care Physicians.
