GEORGE V. BONE Obituary
ELGIN - George V. Bone, 85, of Elgin passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Delnor-Community Hospital, Geneva surrounded by his 9 children. He was born October 23, 1928 in Moline, Illinois the son of Benjamin and Molly Bartelt Bone. He had been a resident of the Elgin area most of his life. He was employed by Salerno Baking Co. as a salesman for over 30 years before retiring. He was an auxiliary policeman with the City of Elgin for many years and also served as part time police officer in Gilbert's and later serving as police chief. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time bowling and golfing. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a longtime member of St. Laurence Catholic Church, Elgin where he was an usher and a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club, Elgin. He was a loving father and was adored by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving are his nine children, Christine (Rick) Thayer, Michael (Terri) Bone, Monica (Mitch) Esterino, Beth (Mike) Riley, Jim (Tami) Bone, Jennifer Porter, Carolyn (Tom) Buhrow, Matthew Bone and Pete (Diana) Bone, 16 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, a sister, Betty Torok and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Phyllis Kroeger Bone on Feb. 10, 2007, and 4 brothers, John, Bill, Don and Bob Bone. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 24 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Laurence Catholic Church, Elgin. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin and on Monday from 9:45 A.M. until the time of mass in the church. Burial will be private in Mount Hope Cemetery, Elgin. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Laurence Catholic Church. lairdfamilyfuneralservices.com or 847-741-8800.
