GEORGE W. SPANNENBERG Jr. Obituary
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS - George W. Spannenberg Jr., a resident of Arlington Heights for over 20 years and formerly of the Northwest side of Chicago, passed away peacefully January 9, 2014 at home. George was born April 20, 1923, in Chicago. He attended St. John Lutheran School, Schurz High School both in Chicago and Northwestern University. He had a career in accounting for the Pullman Co (28 years) and Kemper Corp. (18 years). He was a member of only two churches in his life. Mt. Olive Lutheran in Chicago and St. Paul Lutheran in Mt. Prospect. He served his Lord in many capacities in his churches. George was a man of tremendous faith which he passed on to his family. He was an avid Chicago sports fan and was nationally known in the field of raising and racing homing pigeons. Beloved husband for 68 years to Stephanie (nee Taseff) Spannenberg. Loving father of Susan (Ron) Kazlo, Linda (Steve) Maegdlin, Judy (Ralph) Steinbeck. Cherished grandfather of Jon (Christy), Jeffrey (Kate) Kazlo; Lindsay (Doug) Coil, Stephanie (Tom) Wade; Doug, Jim (Jenny) and Emily Steinbeck. Devoted great-grandfather of Lucy Kazlo; Mallory and Trevor Coil; Lincoln and Xavier Wade. Dear son of the late Kathryn (nee Pflantz) and the late George W. Spannenberg Sr. Fond brother of Gene (Nonie) Spannenberg. Many nieces and nephews. Visitation is 3 to 8 PM Sunday, at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd. (at Northwest Hwy.), Mt. Prospect. Lying in State Monday 9 AM until Services at 10 AM, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 100 S. School St., Mt. Prospect. Interment in Memory Gardens.
