Rev. Howard J. Gleason Rev. Howard J. Gleason, 59, Pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Burlington, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 in his home with his family by his side. He was born February 8, 1953, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Richard and Shirley (Spicer) Gleason. Howard graduated from Central Lake High School in Central Lake, Mich., and married his high school sweetheart, Diana Bush. He enlisted in the Navy in 1972, and served on nuclear submarines until 1980. He became the training coordinator at the Point Beach, Wisconsin Nuclear Plant, a position he held from 1980 to 1991. He received his B.A. degree in 1988 from Silver Lake College and his master's degree in Theology from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Mo. in 1995. He was appointed Pastor at Grace Lutheran Church in Cloverdale, Indiana, serving from 1995 to 2001. He was then called to Pastor at St. John Lutheran Church in Burlington in 2001 and proudly served his congregation until his passing. Surviving is his loving wife of 42 years, Diana; his beloved children, Andrea (Tom) Krauss and Howard Jr. (Jamie) Gleason; cherished grandchildren, Zoe, Max, Grace and Sophia; his siblings, Phil (Pam) VonSeggren, Jaime (Stacy) Gleason, Becky (Jeff) Hoeks, Susan (Stein) Poulsen and Barbara Johnson: and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Chuck Gleason. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at the St. John Lutheran Church, 13N535 French Road, Burlington. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at the church, and will continue on Monday prior to the service from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be directed to the Kishwaukee Cancer Center or the DeKalb County Hospice, P.O. Box 85, Burlington, IL 60109.
