James G. "Jim" Wasson of Naperville since 1977 James G. "Jim" Wasson, age 89, formerly of Westchester, IL, died Tuesday, July 11, 2013 at Tabor Hills Healthcare Facility in Naperville. He was born December 21, 1923 in Sparta, IL. Beloved husband of Virginia (nee Leeck) Wasson, whom he married November 21, 1945, loving father of Sandra "Sandy" (Ed) Tyrala of Glen Ellyn, IL, Marsha (Daniel) Braun of Zionsville, IN and James G. "Jim" Wasson, Jr. of Matteson, IL, adored grandfather of Karen (Charles) Chapell and Kimberly (Heath) Johnson; Timothy Braun, Rebecca (Daniel) Clark and Kristina (Ian) Elfe; Nathaniel (Sandra) Wasson and Matthew Wasson, cherished great-grandfather of Cameron and Evan Chapell; Dylan and Shane Johnson; James G. Wasson III and Grace Wasson, devoted son of the late James A. and Erma Elizabeth (nee Kirkpatrick) Wasson, dear brother of the late Willard J. (Gretchen of Willowbrook, IL) Wasson, fond uncle and great-uncle of many. Jim grew up living between Sparta and Oak Park, IL and was a graduate of Oak Park and River Forest High School, Class of 1942. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and later the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II and as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1962. He attended Monmouth College, Monmouth, IL, Colorado A&M (now Colorado State), Fort Collins, the University of Wisconsin at Madison and Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), Chicago. Jim graduated with a degree in Business Administration from Northwestern University in 1953. Jim was a real estate and finance specialist with extensive experience in leadership of savings institutions and mortgage banking companies, management of secondary markets and development of technical support services for operations activities. He also headed a consulting group to advise clients on structuring and operating all types of real estate lending operations. He began his career as Director of Management Services in 1957 at the Mortgage Bankers Association of America, Chicago, IL and retired in 1991 as Vice President and Director, Real Estate Lending and Loan Administration at the U.S. League of Savings Institutions, Chicago. Jim was a member of American Legion Post #43 and Bethany Lutheran Church, both in Naperville. He was a former social member of Cress Creek Country Club in Naperville and loved antique cars, especially his 1967 Mercury Cougar. Visitation Sunday, June 16, 2-7 P.M. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill Street, Naperville.
