JOHN R. MCCANN Sr. Obituary
Mr. John R. McCann, Sr. of Willow Springs, Mo., passed away Friday, August 1, 2014 while at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Mo. Born June 20, 1936, in Evanston, Ill., to Robert W. and Eva (Dunsmoor) McCann, he was 78 years old. John was one of 10 children born to Robert and Eva McCann. He graduated from Glenbrook High School with the class of 1954. On Feb. 2, 1957, he married Frances Ann Cioper and to this union, four children were born. John and Frances lived in Glenview, Ill. where John was a firefighter for over 25 years, retiring as a Fire Lieutenant on Jan. 4, 1995. After his retirement, he and Frances moved to Willow Springs where he was very active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. John had many enjoyments in his life such as hunting, carpentry, and boating. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Cynthia A. McCann; his brother, Robert McCann; and two sisters, Patricia Davis and Geraldine Vogt. Mr. McCann is survived by his wife of 57 years, Frances "Fran" McCann of Willow Springs; his children, Linda J. Whitfield and her husband M. Todd of Algonquin, Illinois; John R. McCann, Jr. and his wife Diane L. Dauber of Flower Mound, Texas; and Daniel McCann and his wife Mary C. Reese of Glenview, Illinois. He is further survived by his brothers, James McCann; Steven McCann; sisters, Janet LaPlume; Nancy Mott; Deborah Grubb; Susan Fleener; his grandchildren Amy J. (Whitfield) Landis and her husband Joseph; Jacob T. Whitfield and his wife Brieanna Muscat; Erin R. McCann; Rachel L. Whitfield; Sean D. McCann; Connor A. McCann; Jeremy R. McCann; Joseph D. McCann; Evelyn C. McCann; and two great grandchildren, Jayden J. Landis; and Camden J. Landis. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins further survive. A memorial mass will be recited Tuesday, August 12th at 10 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, located at 1775 Grove St. in Glenview, IL. Interment will follow after the mass at All Saints Cemetery, located in Des Plaines, IL. There will also be a gather with the family at Hackney's On Lake, located at 1514 E. Lake Ave., Glenview, from 6 to 9 pm.
