1948 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
BURLINGTON - Karen M. Kirkeeng, 66, passed away in the loving presence of her husband Gerald on July 9, 2014 at their home. She was born January 24, 1948 to Marion and Ruth Mitchell in Chicago, IL. Karen graduated from Hampshire High School in 1966. Karen married Gerald Kirkeeng on August 26, 1967 and together they raised four children. Karen dedicated her life to her family and was a stay at home mom. Karen was an active member of Mount Zion Christian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and decorating/ rehabbing houses. She had a mind for seeing the beauty in all things and for making things more beautiful. Karen had a calling to be a foster mother to twelve children. Because of those children she volunteered with the Special Olympics. Karen is survived by her husband, Gerald; their children, Bruce Kirkeeng, Chad (Heather) Kirkeeng, Trumaine "TJ" Kirkeeng, and Carol Gerlach; their grandchildren, Nicole, Monica, Jessica, Kayla, Alexis, Tyler, Kylie, and Emily; and their great-grandchildren, Tia, Damian, and Jane. Karen is also survived by her siblings, David (Judy) Mitchell, Paul Mitchell, and Mary (Daniel) Ebert; her brother-in-law, Duane (Ellie) Kirkeeng. Karen was preceded in death by her son, Steven and her parents, Marion and Ruth. Visitation will be held at Mt. Zion Christian Church in Lake Geneva on July 19 from 10am - 12 noon. The memorial service will begin at 12 noon. Burial at the Southern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery will take place on July 21 at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Mt. Zion Christian School. The family would like to thank the hospice program of Aurora Visiting Nurse Program. They also extend a special thank you to Terri Lulling for all her help and support.
