1936 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
NAPERVILLE - Kenneth A. "Ken" Phillippo, age 78, a resident of Monarch Landing in Naperville, IL since 2012, formerly of Hegewisch, Downers Grove and Sandwich, IL, died Friday, July 4, 2014 at ManorCare of Naperville after a heroic battle with lung cancer. He was born April 22, 1936 in Kankakee, IL. Beloved husband of Jacqueline "Jackie" (nee Roma) Phillippo, whom he married May 25, 1957, loving father of Christina (Jeff) Anderson of Batavia, IL, Kenneth (Keli) Phillippo of Sandwich, IL and Dr. Cyndi (Mark) Bergs of Merritt Island, FL, adored Papa of Bianca, Dominic, Alicia, Lauren, Angela and Elizabeth; Nykki , Becky, Ashley, Danielle, Cierra, Tyler, Kenneth III and Brayden, cherished great-grandfather of Landyn , devoted son of the late Frank and Darlene (nee Outsen) Phillippo, dear brother of William (Nancy) Phillippo of DeMotte, IN, brother-in-law of Joan (the late Robert) Gallowitch of Valparaiso, IN, fond uncle and great-uncle of many nieces and nephews. Ken moved to Chicago at young age, attended Gallistel Elementary School and was a graduate of Bowen High School. He attended Wilson Junior College and graduated from Northwestern University, Evanston with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy. After serving in the U.S. Army, Ken worked for Republic Steel, International Harvester and was employed for 19 years with General Motors as a Certified Industrial Hygienist. Ken was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Naperville and was a former member of Our Lady of Peace in Darien, IL and St. John Catholic Church in Somonauk, IL. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed intricate woodworking, photography, boating and fishing. Visitation Wednesday, July 9, 4-8 P.M. at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL. Services will begin Thursday, July 10, 9:15 A.M. from the funeral home and will proceed to a 10 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1500 Brookdale Rd., Naperville, IL 60563, 630-355-8980, www.stapostle.org. Committal rites and military honors will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
