Cpl. Peter J. Giannopoulos of Inverness The family and friends of Cpl. Peter J. Giannopoulos, 22, are requested to please meet for funeral services at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 133 S. Roselle Road, Palatine. Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine. Born Sept. 1, 1982, in Skokie, he was killed in action Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, in Lutifiyah, Iraq, while serving his country in the Marine Corps, Weapons Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment. He was the cherished son of John and Angie (nee Zahareas); loving brother of Nick and Michael; dear grandson of Peter and Helen Giannopoulos, and Olga and the late Nick Zahareas; dearest nephew of Chrys (Steve) Funteas, Perry (Rubine) Giannopoulos, Georgia (Alex) Kantzavelos and Stella (Phil) Doktor; fond cousin of John, Alycia, Lauryn, Peter, Alexandra, Nicole, Jim, Katherine, Nick, Elly and John; dear friend of many; and best friend of Shannon Pearcy.
