Obituary Condolences

Robert D. Lawrence Robert D. Lawrence 78, of Elgin, died Monday August 26, 2013 at Sherman Hospital, Elgin. He was born August 28, 1934, in Urbana, the son of Herbert and Alice (Hammond) Lawrence. A 1952 Dundee Community High School graduate, Bob continued his education at Elgin Community College, and University of Illinois College of Pharmacy where he graduated with a BS in Pharmacy in 1958. In November 21, 1956 he married Barbara J. Loek in Elgin, and they lived in Chicago for a time. He retired for the last time in 2003, after fifty years in the business. Mr. Lawrence was active in Boy Scouting both as a young man and also when his sons were growing up. He achieved the rank of LIFE and served as a scoutmaster, and council member. While in school, he was a Sea Scout leader as he enjoyed boating and teaching the scouts. Both Bob and Barb and family are charter member of Christ the Lord Lutheran Church that is celebrating its 50th year this year. He served on council and many committees over the years. Mr. Lawrence was the first president of the Citizen's Advisory Committee for the Elgin Public Museum as he enjoyed history and was intrigued with the findings at the museum. Bob was a life member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Assoc. where he competed annually at the national matches in Friendship, IN. since 1989, and tied a national record in the early 1990's that has not been broken. He was also a member of the Sycamore Sportsman's Club. As an avid woodworker, he enjoyed making furniture, and also some of his competition muzzle loading rifles. He turned the first candle sticks for the church when they first started 50 years ago at Kimball Jr High school. He was also a member of the Fox Valley Woodworkers. Mr. Lawrence is survived by his wife Barbara, his children, Kathleen Lawrence of Charleston, IL, Thomas (Helen) Lawrence of Hampshire, their two beloved granddaughters, Katelyn and Amy Lawrence. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lawrence was preceded in death by two children, Patricia Lawrence in February 1971, and Scott Lawrence in August 2003. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4 at Christ the Lord Lutheran Church, 12N465 Tina Trail, Elgin, Illinois 60124. Visitation from 5:30 p.m. until the time of service. Contributions in Mr. Lawrence's memory may be made to the Christ The Lord Lutheran Church.
