ROBERT M. "BOB" DAMISCH


1923 - 2014 | Obituary Condolences
Robert M. "Bob" Damisch, age 90, of Rutland Township/ Hampshire, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2014, at the Heritage Healthcare Center in Elgin, surrounded by family. Bob was the son of the late Marcus and Edna (nee Hannah) Damisch, and was born on his family's homestead in Rutland Township on July 22, 1923, and lived there his entire life. The family farm was homesteaded by his great-great-grandfather in 1837. Bob attended district # 29 Eakin grade school in Rutland and was a graduate of Elgin High School. He was a W.W. II veteran having served in the United States Navy as a armed guard signalman sm3/c from 1942-1945. He served aboard seven ships, including two foreign troop ships and crossed the Atlantic Ocean sixteen times in convoy. Following his time in the service, Bob studied Agr Ed thru the GI bill. From 1946-1970, Bob operated the Damisch Farm. In 1963, he was elected the Supervisor of Rutland Twp. and served on the Kane County Board for eight years. Bob also served as a many year election judge in Rutland Twp. He was a member of the Kane County Farm Bureau, and was the organizer and the First President of the Rutland Go-Getters 4 H Club. He was a former 20 year employee of Motorola and retired in 11988 as Chief of Security at the Schaumburg campus. Bob was also co-owner of Triple Oaks Development on Big Timber Road. He had a love of history and the Civil War. Bob enjoyed travel and over his live had seen 42 countries. Bob is survived by his wife: Nancy. His sons: James R and Gary R. His stepchildren: Donna Cota, Tom (Nancy Jo) Cota, and Ronald (Rene') Cota. Bob is also survived by his grandchildren: Eric (Jessica) Damisch, Teresa (Luis) Marques, Tonya (Eric) Hartwig, Jeremy (Cassie) Damisch, Jeffery Damisch, Jason Damisch, Tommy (Ashley) Cota, Kimberly (Johnny) Fowler and David Cota. His great-grandchildren: Brittany, Jordan, Olivia, Ethan, and Alexander Damisch. Angelica and Diana Mancuso. His sister: Hazel Danner, his brothers: John and Richard Damisch. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his son: D. Stephen Damisch and his sister: Dorothy (Richard) Ryniker. Graveside Military Honors will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 3:30 PM at the Washington Memorial Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery in Elgin. The Damisch family will be receiving friends at the Miller Funeral Home from Noon until 3 PM. Please omit flowers. Memorials may be made to the Anderson Animal Shelter, South Elgin.
