WHEATON - Russell W. Babb, age 89, a long time resident of Wheaton, passed away on April 13, 2014. Born in Momence, IL he grew up on a farm south of Lafayette. Beloved husband of Maurlea; loving father of Sue, Joyce and Janet (Tre) Book; dear grandfather of Sarah and Lauren Babb; preceded in death by his beloved uncle Ray. He graduated from Richland Township High School in April, 1943 and was drafted in May, 1943. Russ spent a year with the 69th Infantry Division at Camp Shelby; his training as an infantryman. An Army veteran, he served in WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was shipped to England in June, 1944 as a replacement for the battles being waged in France. He was trained as a clerk typist and was sent to Paris to work for a medical food inspection company. Russ then helped process personnel to return to the United States until he was honorably discharged in April of 1946. Russ and Maurlea were married in February, 1947. He enrolled in Loyola University in Chicago and graduated in June, 1949. Russ joined the Wander Company and spent 13 years with them. He earned an MBA from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, in August, 1956. He retired from Williams Electronics in 1986. He spent his retirement years traveling with his beloved wife, children and grandchildren. Russ was known for his sense of integrity, work ethic, service to the church and his love of family. Visitation, Tuesday, April 15th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn. Funeral Service, Wednesday, April 16th 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 424 Forest, Glen Ellyn. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson's Foundation, 1359 Broadway #1509, New York, NY 10018 or American Diabetes Association, P.O. Although I did not know Russell, I do know his granddaughter Sarah. The smile on her face when ever she spoke of him told me what a loving man he was. I know he was a proud, respected man. That was deeply loved by his family and many friends. God Bless. My prayers are with all of you.
