1941 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
ELGIN - Suzanne F. Kostka, 73, of Elgin, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at Delnor-Community Hospital, Geneva, after a 3½ year battle with cancer. She was born April 2, 1941, in Hartford City, IN., the daughter of Frank and Maryanna Coulter Forkner. She had been a resident of Palatine for 25 years, moving to Elgin in 2002. Surviving are her husband, Dick Kostka, whom she married on June 29, 1963, two daughters, Kristin (Scott) Creech of New Lenox, IL., and Carolyn (Jeff) Donarski of Oak Park, IL., and five beautiful grandchildren, Nathan, Emma, Sophia, Abby and Lily. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Nancy Beil. Susie earned a BS degree in Nursing from Indiana University. She and Dick married and moved to Texas where she worked in hospitals and for the Visiting Nurse Association. They lived in Texas for 12 years, enjoying lakes and water skiing, and then spent one year living in and exploring the South of France. Moving to Palatine in 1976, Susie began a long career of volunteer work with the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity and the Methodist Church. She was a talented artist, producing painted on glass pictures called "Susie Pictures". Also during this time she developed and expanded her love for quilting. She increased these skills while working part time in quilt stores giving assistance and teaching others the craft. She created beautiful quilts, many of which were given to local missions. She served for several years as the chair of the mission committee at Cornerstone United Methodist Church. On June 29, 2013, Dick and Susie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary enjoying the lakes and boating in Eagle River, Wisconsin, with the whole family. Memorial services will be held at 10:00AM, on Monday, June 30, 2014, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 41W170 Russell Road, Plato Center. Burial will be private in Plato Center Cemetery, Plato Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the or Cornerstone United Methodist Church.
