VIRGINIA "GINNY" REINKEN Obituary
Virginia Ann (Anderson) Reinken, 79, of Scottsdale, AZ, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at her home after a short illness. She was born at Community Hospital on December 5, 1933 in Geneva, IL to Anne and Iddo (Isadore) Anderson and resided at her home in Batavia for 21 years until moving to the west. Ginny graduated from Batavia High School in 1951. She earned her bachelor's degree in Business Education at Northern Illinois University in 1955. She worked in the administration as secretary to the president while attending school. She was active in her sorority and served as president of Delta Sigma Epsilon in her senior year. After graduation and marriage, she moved to El Paso, TX in 1955, where her husband was stationed in the Army. She taught her first year in her major while in El Paso. The couple moved to Scottsdale in June 1956 where she pursued her education earning her master's degree from Arizona State University in 1958. She loved teaching and continued to teach 27 years at Scottsdale High and 23 years at Coronado High School, retiring in 2006 having taught over 10,000 teenagers in her 51 year teaching career. She was blessed with a lovely singing voice and starred in many musicals that were presented at Scottsdale High School for the Scholarship Fund, such as "76 Trombones" and "Brigadoon." Along with music, she also loved reading, movies, food, close friends and family, her dear cats "Ms. Kookie" and Mr. KitKat," and Ascension Lutheran Church where she was a member since 1956. She is survived by her sisters, Darlene (Richard) Larson of Geneva, IL and Marcia (Russell) Baresel of Hampshire, IL; nephews, Mark (Heather) Baresel of Hampshire, Scott (Katherine) Larson of St. Charles, Brett (Jacquelyn) Larson of Batavia; a niece, Renee (Chris) Vig of Monona, WI; grand nephews Michael (Kara) and Harrison Vig of Monona, WI; grand nieces, Lana Brautigam of Geneva, IL and Brianna Baresel of Elgin, IL; along with many cousins and their families and an abundance of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anne and Iddo Anderson of Batavia, IL; several aunts and uncles along with a number of cousins. A memorial service will be held at her home church of Bethany Lutheran Church, corner of Lincoln and Wilson, in Batavia on Sunday , September 29, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will precede at 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Rev. Steven Srock and Rev. Robert Stromberg will be officiating. Burial in the family plot at West Batavia Cemetery was private. A previous celebration of life service was held at Ascension Lutheran Church in Scottsdale, AZ at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 14, 2013.
