1926 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Warren C. "Shorty" Boyes Jr., 87, passed away on Sat. Feb. 22, 2014, after a grateful life. He was born Oct. 25, 1926, in Chicago, moved to Libertyville when he was two years old and lived here happily for the remainder of his life. He was a 1944 graduate of Libertyville Township High School, where he lettered in basketball and later attended Illinois Wesleyan and Lake Forest College. He was an outstanding fast pitch softball pitcher whom, with his teammates, beat the famous King and His Court. Warren was a US Navy veteran and worked for the Libertyville Postal Service for 35 years, as a carrier, superintendant and post master. He was a character who had a zest for life, enjoying every single day that he lived, was always smiling and loved to tease. He wore a signature crew cut his whole life and his socks were always the same color as the shirt he wore. He played golf and gave it up shortly after he got a hole in one. His advice to all was "everything in moderation" and to "Relax". He will live forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Mary and 5 daughters, Linda Boyes, Brenda (Phil) Jones, Peggy (Jim) Freese, Betsy (Keith) McDougall and Mary (Matt) Kovatch; His seven grandchildren all adored him and they have many hilarious "Papa Stories" that will be shared for years to come. They include, Bethany and David Jones, Stephen and Jamie Freese, Carly, Sean and Christopher Kovatch; his sister Joan Clendening and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Joanna Boyes. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25 at the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave. (Rt. 176, one block west of Milwaukee Ave.) Libertyville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wed. Feb. 26, at Hope Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 34275 N. Allegheny Road, Grayslake, IL 60030 where he was a founding member. Interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to his church or the Paramedic Unit of the Libertyville Fire Dept. 1551 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, IL 60048.
