CARPENTERSVILLE - William T. Smith, age 90, passed away on Wednesday evening at the JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington. Bill was born on Jan. 1, 1924 in Chicago, the son of the late Daniel & Ella (nee Torkilson) Smith. On February 23, 1946 he married Eleanor Gustke. Eleanor preceded Bill in death on December 5, 2006 after celebrating 60 years of marriage. Bill was a resident of the Carpentersville area for the past 60 years. He was a very proud W.W. II United States Army Veteran having served in the 101st Airborne. Bill was also a Purple Heart and Bronze Star Recipient. Survivors include his children: Linda (Ted) Bowers, Wayne (Nancy) Smith and Scott (Sandy) Smith. Bill is also survived by his grandchildren: Brian (Courtney) Bowers, Chad (Heather) Smith, Joshua Smith, Tyler Smith and Wesley Smith, and Denise (Seth) Rosenthal. His great grandsons:Cameron, Aiden, Cole. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy: Cathy, his six brothers: Jack, Harry, Ted, Al, Dan and Charlie and his four sisters: Marion, Helen, Peggy and Anna. Memorial Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014 at Noon at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 310 E. Main St. in East Dundee. The Rev. Phillip Baerwolf will officiate. Private family burial with military honors will be held on Thursday in the Dundee Twp. East Cemetery, East Dundee. The Smith family will be receiving friends at the church on Wednesday morning from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
