NEWPORT NEWS - Adam "Duke" Kenneth Snyder, 80, died Sunday, January 5, 2014 at his home. He was born in Locust Dale, PA and was a resident of Newport News for 41 years. Mr. Snyder enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 and was a Veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1972 with 20 years of dedicated service. It was his honor to serve his country. He immediately started work at the Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co. in 1972 as a Security Guard and retired in 1996. Mr. Snyder was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara M. Snyder; his son, John K. Snyder; his parents, John and Martha Mae Snyder; and his brother, John E. Snyder, Jr. He was fondly known as "P" to his grandchildren and those who loved him. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Joy Snyder Bryant and her husband, Mike, of Poquoson and Jennifer Snyder of Newport News; his daughter-in-law, Allison Snyder of Tryon, NC; his five grandchildren, Micah Peed, Taylor Bryant, and Spencer, Quincy, and Jillian Snyder; and his special friends, Nikki and Bennie Lester. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, January 13, 2014 at Weymouth Funeral Home with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to: woundedwarriorproject.org.
