HAMPTON - Benjamin Brooks Adderholdt, 89, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at James River Convalescent Center in Newport News, Va. He was born Sept. 9, 1917, and was one of 11 children born to Daniel and Alice Adderholdt in Hudson, N.C. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed working in his garden. He began his career in the U.S. Navy in 1937 and retired from NASA Hampton in 1976. He is survived by his wife, Doris Armstrong Adderholdt; two sons, Benjamin Brooks Adderholdt Jr. and Bruce Michael Adderholdt; granddaughter, Whitney Brooke Adderholdt of Hampton Roads; brother, Charles Adderholdt of Morehead City, N.C.; three stepchildren, Jeanie A. VanSickels, Margaret B. Vance and George D. Boardman; five step-grandchildren, Christian L. Hawkins, Emily E. Haught, Jennifer M. Vance, James David Vance and Melissa E. VanSickels; and three great-grandchildren, Cora Hawkins, Andrew Hawkins and Joshua Haught. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church.
