NEWPORT NEWS - Betty Elizabeth Veliquette, 87, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013 at her home. Born in Wayne County, North Carolina, she had been a Peninsula resident since 1964. She retired as a Supervisor from Ft. Eustis after 27 years of service. She was currently working in food demonstrations and merchandising at the Ft. Eustis Commissary, where she had worked for over the past 30 years. She was also a member of Women of the Moose Lodge 1711, where she volunteered as a cashier and various other positions for almost 40 years. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Raymond A. Veliquette, and her granddaughter, Shannon Elizabeth Crawford. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl V. Crawford and husband, Pat, of Yorktown; a grandson, John P. Crawford and wife, Elizabeth, of Wilmington, North Carolina; her two faithful canine companions, Pepe and Scooter; and numerous friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Weymouth Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Shaun Brown. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, followed by Moose Rites, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. In keeping with Betty's love for animals, memorial donations may be made to SPCA Humane Society, 523 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
