SMITHFIELD - Clarice D. White passed away at Obici Hospital, in Suffolk, Va., on Wednesday, March 28, 2012.
A native of Smithfield, Va., she was employed from 1945 to 1987 as an elementary school teacher in Isle of Wight County, having served at Carrollton and Hardy Elementary School. She was a Trustee and deeply devoted member of Little Zion Baptist Church in Smithfield, Va., for over 75 years. She served actively in several organizations including the Mount Zion Tent #157, and the Lebanon Virginia Baptist Association and Allied Bodies.
Ms. White was preceded in death by her parents, John T. and Georganna White; and all of her siblings, Jack, Sarah, Georgiana, Frank, Mary Blanch, Margaret, Herbert Jr., Thomas, Henrietta and Henry.
She was loved by so many of her former students and countless members of the community. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, Denise Harrell; her nephews, Thomas White Jr., Carl Stokes, Gene Stokes and Herbert White Jr.; her niece, Christine White-Clark; great-nephews, Col. (ret.) Rodney Davis, Vincent Rogers, Erik Rogers, Stevan Davis; great-nieces, Cheryl Poarch, Sandra Powell and Krystal Harry; and many great great-nephews, great great-nieces, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
The body will be available for viewing from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Pretlow and Chapman Funeral, 658 Main Street, Smithfield, VA 23430. The funeral will be held at noon Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Little Zion Baptist Church, 9496 Old Stage Highway, Smithfield, VA 23430. Interment will be in Baptist Memorial Cemetery, Smithfield, Va.
